Lip Neutralizing
This service is perfect for clients who has spot discolorations and or concentrations of hyperpigmentation on the surface of their lips that requires color correction and or lightening.
This service is a multistep process, and two or more touch up sessions may be required.
What Is Lip Neutralization?
Lip neutralization is a specialized semi-permanent makeup technique designed to correct dark, cool-toned, or unevenly pigmented lips. It uses color theory to “neutralize” unwanted undertones (such as blue, purple, or grey) and gradually brighten the lips. It’s an essential first step before applying desired lip tints on melanin-rich lips.

How Should I Prepare for Lip Neutralization?
Stay hydrated and exfoliate your lips gently a day or two before the session. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood thinners for 24 hours. If you’re prone to cold sores, take antiviral medication in advance. Arrive with clean lips—no makeup, lip balm, or oils on the skin.
What Is the Process Like?
The artist begins with a consultation and color assessment. A neutralizing pigment is then carefully implanted into the lips using a fine needle. The goal is not to add color, but to balance the existing tones. Sessions take 2–3 hours, and multiple treatments are often needed for optimal results.
What Are the Benefits?
- Evens out lip pigmentation
- Brightens dark or cool-toned lips
- Prepares lips for future lip blush treatments
- Creates a more youthful and vibrant lip appearance
- Boosts confidence with natural-looking results
- Saves time and effort on daily makeup
How Long Does a Lip Neutralization Treatment Take?
The procedure typically lasts 2 to 3 hours. This includes consultation, numbing, pigment selection, and the actual treatment. However, multiple sessions (often 2–4) are usually necessary to fully neutralize dark tones and achieve desired results.
Is Lip Neutralization Worth It?
Absolutely—especially for individuals with melanin-rich or darkly pigmented lips who want a more balanced lip tone. It opens the door to future lip blush treatments and enhances natural beauty by creating a soft, even canvas. The results are long-lasting and confidence-boosting.
Lip Neutralization Aftercare: What Happens After the Treatment?
Expect some tenderness, swelling, and a slightly intense color for the first few days. The lips will gradually lighten and heal over 7–10 days. Avoid spicy food, kissing, and makeup on the lips during this time. Use a healing balm as directed, and follow aftercare strictly to ensure proper pigment retention.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most clients need between 2 to 4 sessions spaced several weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on your natural lip color, undertones, and how well your skin retains pigment. Each session will gradually bring your lips closer to a lighter, more even tone.
What Happens During the Consultation?
During the consultation, we assess your natural lip tone, discuss your goals, and create a custom plan tailored to your skin tone and needs. We’ll explain the steps, healing process, expected number of sessions, and answer all your questions—so you feel informed and excited to begin.
